Fatal Affair in Monte Diablo Canyon
The Convict Lake Story
In 1870 the Central Pacific Railroad's Overland Express was robbed of over $41,000 in gold coin, the West's first train robbery and the first of the new transcontinental railroad. The robbers were quickly caught, tried, and sent to prison in Carson City, but a year later they instigated the largest prison escape in American history. Twenty-nine inmates breached the gates and scattered, leaving two dead and Nevada's lieutenant governor badly wounded and disgraced.
This is their story. (Published by Dog Ear Publishing in 2014 ~ Shipped by publisher.)
